Gogarty welcomes new bus changes for Lucan
Paul Gogarty TD has welcomed the announcement by Dublin Bus that Lucan is in the first phase of plans to overhaul the bus network and provide a more efficient service for Dublin’s bus commuters.
“The implementation of a network review is long overdue and Dublin Bus’s announcement is a positive step in matching the bus network to the changing patterns of our county. Areas like Lucan have suffered because of a concentration of resources in the city centre area and the proposed new routes aim to take on board the changing demographics and usage patterns,” he stated.
Under the new plan, routes in Lucan and North Kildare will be enhanced with more frequent services. Two of the core routes will have peak frequencies of 10 minutes or better, with the 25a serving Superquinn via Foxborough and Arthur Griffith and the 25b serving Adamstown via Griffeen Avenue. The 25a service will follow its current alignment to Palmerstown, and then operate via Chapelizod Bypass to Wilton terrace (Leeson Street). The 25b will follow the current 25x routing from Adamstown via Griffeen using the Chapelizod Bypass to Wilton Terrace (Leeson Street). The 25x from Dodsboro will remain. Lucan village area and Dodsboro will continue to be serviced by a 25 every hour, with a half hour service for the 66 and 67, with 66a and 66b routes on the hour. All buses will terminate at Wilton Terrace, off Leeson Street, passing Dawson Street and Pembroke Street en route.
“The proposed changes have been recommended by the Deloitte report last year which highlighted bus ‘bunching’ and network complexity as stumbling blocks to an improved service. The Network Direct redesign will iron out these difficulties and result in savings of €12 million. In particular, the increase in orbital routes around the city and radial routes across the city is something to be welcomed. These will allow more cross city journeys and more communities to be directly accessible by bus,” stated Gogarty.
