Green Party welcomes Cllr Dorothy Corrigan to South Dublin County Council
The Green Party has welcomed the co-option of Dorothy Corrigan onto South Dublin County Council. Cllr Corrigan will take the place of former Mayor and representative for Lucan, Billy Gogarty, who sadly passed away in May.
Cllr Corrigan previously represented the Green Party in the 2004 local elections and works in health administration in the Adelaide and Meath Hospital Dublin, incorporating the National Children’s Hospital. She is a member of An Taisce, Birdwatch Ireland and has been involved with Newcastle Lyons and Districts residents’ association for many years.
Cllr Corrigan said: “It is an honour to be co-opted to South Dublin County Council, but also a sad occasion too, considering the two wonderful councillors that have previously gone before me. I worked with both Billy Gogarty and Fintan McCarthy on several local issues over a number of years and it is an honour to follow in their footsteps. I still find it hard to believe they are gone and I will remember them as I go about my work as a local representative.”
Cllr Corrigan cites the issue of the proposed incinerator for Rathcoole as her number one priority on the Council. “I am focused on making sure it doesn’t go ahead, in line with the community’s wishes. The Green Party has always been opposed to incineration and we are working hard to ensure our policy is implemented.”
Other issues of concern to Cllr Corrigan are school facilities in the local area and the protection of green spaces in Lucan. “I am working with our local Green Party TD Paul Gogarty to secure a special amenity order to ensure St. Edmunsbury, one of the last remaining scenic areas in Lucan, is preserved as an amenity for the local community.”
Green Party TD for Dublin Mid-West Paul Gogarty welcomed Cllr Corrigan to South Dublin County Council saying: “Dorothy has been a long standing stalwart of the Green Party in Dublin Mid-West. She was the right person to take over the seat at this time and will be working as part of a strong team with a number of Green Party area representatives to maximise the level of service available to our constituents. She has vast amounts of community experience and will be a huge asset to the people of Lucan, Palmerstown, Clondalkin, Newcastle, Saggart and Rathcoole.”
