I attended the launch of the above report today in Tallaght library. A pdf copy is attached here.
The community-driven report identified inequalities in areas such as Clondalkin and Tallaght. I had a particular interest in Balgaddy, this being part of my Area Committee. Although I am aware of and working on behalf of constituents in relation to so many issues referenced in the report, it was nevertheless a shock to see all the findings displayed together so starkly.
There is a systemic problem, which requires a national focus and adequate funding, but equally it will not look good for South Dublin County Council to see how poor its maintenance targets are when compared with Kildare Co Co next door. See image below as an example.
At the event, I restated my commitment to working towards addressing some of these challenges within the limited powers available to Councillors and also recommended that the residents groups and constituent bodies take a targeted approach to dealing with some of the funding allocation in advance of the annual budgetary process in SDCC.
