9th February 2026 - Slight delay on filtration system but largely on track
According to the SDCC CEO, the filtration system in the main pool needs extra work due to the length of time it was idle. The smaller pool is being filled now for testing. The timeline has shifted forward but they are largely on schedule, Helen reports.

MOTION NO.23
MOTION: Councillor H. Farrell
That this Area Committee requests South Dublin County Council to engage with Aura Leisure to extend weekend opening hours at Lucan Leisure Centre, to align with other SDCC leisure centres such as Tallaght and Clondalkin, with a minimum closing time of 5.00pm on at least one weekend day, as the centre currently closes at 3.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
REPORT:
Discussions have taken place with Aura Leisure regarding the weekend opening times and the hours of opening have been reviewed. The weekend opening hours will be extended to 6pm on weekends starting on January 31st and once the pool is opened the weekend hours will be extended to 7pm and the mid week hours will be extended to 10pm.

12th January 2026 (from Cllr Helen Farrell) - Pool to get test fills in the next week
This was originally scheduled for last April, but CEO Colm Ward announced at the monthly Council meeting today that the pool is being filled for testing this week, with the anticipated handover to the operator Aura scheduled for the end of next month. We just got reports in that the pool already got a test fill today.
Positive news if it finally happens. Expect some slippage even as the schedule tightens, given past history.
The full report from today:
"Following a tender process, a replacement main contractor has been appointed to compete Lucan Leisure Campus and they are working closely with SDCC Architects, the project design team and critical sub-contractors to close out the swimming pool, as well as undertaking some required remedial works. Mechanical and building management system works are currently being completed to allow the pool to be filled this month with handover of the pool to the operator expected this quarter. Separately, it was great to see Esker Boxing Club hold an official opening of their new facility within the refurbished existing leisure centre on the campus last month."
